Roads and Highways are the lifeline for a country’s economy and social development. They are similar to veins in a body, ensuring continuous flow of resources, which leads to smooth economic activity to the remotest of villages, enhanced security of our borders and equitable reach of services for all.

Realizing the importance of roads and highways for our country, the Indian Government has ensured a strong focus on building, maintaining and monetizing its roads and highways infrastructure systems, with a commitment of constructing roads worth Rs 15 lakh crore (US$ 212.80 billion) over the next two years. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways is expected to award road projects with a total length of around 4,500 kms worth Rs 50,000 crore (US$ 7.15 billion) in 2020, while the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) achieved major milestone by digging up a 440-metre long tunnel below the busy Chamba town on Rishikesh-Dharasu highway (NH 94). (India Brand Equity Foundation, 2020)

For achieving these targets, it is imperative for all major projects to leverage geospatial technologies for ensuring cost and time effective delivery and maintenance. This needs to be done over the entire project lifecycle phases – Plan, Design, Build, Operate, and Maintain for creating strong, resilient road and highways infrastructure.

With an objective to deliberate upon the current status of the usage of geospatial technologies in roads and highways, understand the challenges, explore the untapped potential and opportunities for the geospatial industry, The Association of Geospatial Industries (AGI) is organizing a webinar titled, “Unleash the potential of Geospatial Applications in Roads and Highways Sector” on Tuesday, 18 August 2020 from 3 – 5 pm. We cordially invite you to join this webinar.
