Interview: Mr. Pramod Kaushik, President & Managing Director, Hexagon India

India is aiming for ambitious national development in sectors like infrastructure, smart cities, and environmental sustainability. How is Hexagon partnering with various stakeholders to integrate geospatial solutions into these initiatives?

At Hexagon, we understand that geospatial technology is not just a trend, it’s the horizontal driving force for India’s national development. We’ve been proud to be forerunners in nation-building, from establishing the CORS network to putting the latest survey equipment and geospatial software in the hands of those who need it most.

But we’re not stopping there. Our innovative Digital Reality capture systems, combined with the power of simulation and AR/VR, are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. It’s not just capturing data, it’s creating true digital twins: immersive, interactive representations of reality that empower informed decision-making and collaboration.

This technology isn’t just sitting on our shelves. We’re actively partnering with private companies and government PSUs to put these solutions to work, tackling real-world challenges across diverse sectors. Whether it’s optimizing infrastructure projects, managing natural resources, or planning for sustainable development, we’re committed to making a tangible impact on India’s future.

It’s an exciting time to be at the forefront of geospatial innovation, and Hexagon is proud to play a leading role. We’re not just offering tools, we’re empowering the people who are building a brighter tomorrow.

Can you share a specific success story where Hexagon’s geospatial solutions have demonstrably contributed to national development?

While there are numerous examples, I would like to highlight a few across diverse areas. For one, Hexagon has been at the forefront of transforming land management for Kerala by modernizing the state’s land records through our state-of-the-art geospatial solutions, accurately mapping thousands of land parcels, resolving disputes, and boosting transparency – all thanks to precise data and user-friendly platforms. This project empowered citizens, streamlined administration, and unlocked economic opportunities.

Hexagon’s geospatial solutions are the backbone of infrastructure management for smart cities like Jammu, Srinagar, and Patna. We provide real-time data on traffic, utilities, and resources, empowering authorities to make informed decisions, optimize services, and enhance citizen quality of life. Next, Delhi Safe City, UP 112, Abhay Command & Control, and MP Dial 100 are just a few examples where Hexagon’s geospatial platforms are critical components. By integrating data from cameras, sensors, and GIS maps, we enable rapid response to emergencies, improve crime prevention, and create safer communities.

Building robust telecommunication networks and managing vast power grids require precise geospatial insights. Hexagon’s solutions optimize route planning, asset tracking, and maintenance for critical infrastructure projects like T-Fiber & Maha-Genco, contributing to better connectivity and power reliability for millions.

Another deserving mention is Dam Monitoring for NEPCO, considering predicting and mitigating flood risks is essential for national safety. Hexagon’s technology empowers organizations like NEPCO with real-time monitoring of dam health and surrounding areas, enabling proactive measures to safeguard communities and minimize disaster impact.

These are just a glimpse of Hexagon’s impact. We partner with various stakeholders, from government agencies to private companies, to leverage geospatial technology for positive change across India. It’s not just about providing solutions; it’s about empowering progress and building a brighter future for all.

One of the key aspects of national development is ensuring inclusive growth. Can you share some examples of how Hexagon’s geospatial solutions are being used to bridge gaps and empower marginalized communities?

I feel proud, when we at Hexagon are transforming the national development by capturing data for decision-makers, from above the ground with aerial surveys to below the surface with subsurface mapping, and even indoors with LiDAR scans. But the true magic happens when we translate this raw data into meaningful insights, informed decisions, and ultimately, sustainable liveability for all.

And witnessing the impact directly fills me with immense satisfaction. Take our work in UP, where our solutions ensure first responders reach distressed citizens within 15 minutes. Imagine the lives saved, the anxieties calmed, the hope restored. That’s the power of technology used responsibly, and it’s a responsibility we take seriously at Hexagon.

Looking ahead, what are your predictions for the future of geospatial technologies in India, and how will Hexagon continue to be a driving force in their adoption and impact?

The future of Geospatial technologies in India promises to be transformative, and Hexagon is determined to be at the forefront of this exciting journey. Here are some key trends I see shaping the landscape:

Rise of the Digital Twin: A living, breathing replica of the physical world, constantly updated with real-time data and historical insights – this is the power of digital twins. Hexagon is already pioneering this technology, applying it to assets like dams, buildings, and entire cities. These virtual representations will empower data-driven decision-making, optimize asset performance, and predict potential issues before they occur.

AI, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning: Geospatial data is complex and vast, but AI empowers us to unlock its true potential. We see AI-powered solutions tackling diverse challenges, such as detecting deforestation and protecting our precious ecosystems, tracking climate change and mitigating its impact on communities, optimizing transportation networks for smoother, more efficient traffic flow, and so on. Hexagon is actively developing and integrating AI into our solutions, turning data into actionable insights for smarter, sustainable development.

Augmented Reality (AR) for Immersive Experiences: AR empowers citizens and decision-makers alike by blending the real world with digital layers of information. We can map natural and built environments with 360° access from anywhere, which helps improve understanding and planning. It can help visualize locations, assets, and resources in stunning 3D, facilitating collaboration and informed decision-making. The technology integration can bring data to life through immersive visualizations with AR, transforming complex information into easily digestible insights for better public engagement. Hexagon is actively exploring AR applications across various fields, bringing data to life and fostering deeper understanding through interactive experiences.

Beyond these trends, Hexagon will continue to be a driving force in the geospatial sector through further investments in research and development, pushing the boundaries of technology to create cutting-edge solutions that address real-world challenges. We look forward to collaborating with government agencies, private companies, and academia to create a robust ecosystem for innovation and adoption. By actively contributing to this revolution, Hexagon aims to unlock a future where sustainability, efficiency, and well-being are woven into the fabric of our nation.
