Esri India and Center for Knowledge Sovereignty (CKS) Enter MMGEIS Program Pilot Phase

February 28, 2024 (Wednesday), Bengaluru: AGI member Esri India and the the Centre for Knowledge Sovereignty (CKS) recently announced the start of the Master Mentors Geo-enabling Indian Scholars (MMGEIS) program’s pilot program. The program’s pilot phase will involve 1000 students from all over India.

The goal of the online program MMGEIS is to foster a research-oriented mindset and geospatial thinking in students ranging from eighth grade to undergraduate level, who will make up the nation’s future labor force. Over the course of the next five years, the program hopes to engage up to 500,000 students. It aims to strengthen the intellectual property (IP) landscape so that India can file more patents and advance its position as a global center for geospatial innovation. Over 66,400 patent applications, including 140 geospatial patents, were filed in India in 2022 alone.

Since the program’s inception, both Esri India and CKS have embodied their dedication to encouraging students to think spatially, which has sped up the creation of intellectual property in India’s geospatial industry.

A number of initiatives by partnering organizations have laid the ground for the MMGEIS program. Among the noteworthy events are the December 11, 2023, roundtable discussion of business leaders in Delhi, the December 13, 2023, visitation of 42 students from ten cities to the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) center in Bengaluru, and the January 10, 2024, launch of the MMGEIS website in Delhi.

Now that these crucial preparatory tasks have been finished, the MMGEIS program is ready to move into its pilot stage. The pilot program will be introduced in a limited number of schools and educational institutions at first, with plans to expand its reach starting in June of this year. The MMGEIS team is dedicated to helping students have life-changing educational experiences and equipping them for the opportunities of the modern digital age.
